Alfonso DE SIMONE
University of Naples Federico II
Description
Alfonso De Simone (AD) is Professor of Molecular Biology in the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Naples, Italy. Prior to this role, AD pursued his academic career in the UK, first at the University of Cambridge and subsequently at Imperial College London, where he developed interdisciplinary methods combining theoretical approaches and NMR experiments to elucidate transient biomolecular mechanisms in function and disease. His current research operates at the interface of structural and cellular biophysics, focusing on the molecular mechanisms underlying protein misfolding diseases. Notable achievements include the characterisation of the structural and interaction properties of aberrant protein oligomers associated with pathological amyloid assembly, as well as intermediate toxic protofibrils arising from liquid–liquid phase separations.
